The Ice Bucket Challenge has become the newest trend in
social media today. It has rapidly
gaining viral popularity. Mainstream and social media are abuzz with reports of
people from all walks of life accepting the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge
This nonprofit fundraiser exploded largely courtesy of the
viral nature of social media. It was made popular by ALS which stands for (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis). The chilly feeling of icy water
dropping on top of someone momentarily imitates the amount of pain that a
person with ALS feels.
This is the general perception about the people suffering
from ALS and the research carried out for their care and treatment. ALS affects the function of nerves
and muscle. It strikes people between the ages of 40 and 70, and 15 new cases a
day has been reported.
Every time a particular celebrity performs this challenge,
the chances of other celebrities doing the same increases. It is seen that fund
raising increases when celebrities perform the task and face up to challenge.
As of today there is no cure yet, and patients die after suffering through gradual paralysis. White men and veterans
are far more likely to develop ALS, but no one knows why. That is why to help
in discovering the real cause many
people have accepted the challenge with an open heart, including numerous
celebrities.
The challenge is an action where the contestants dump a
bucket of ice cold water on their head in order to encourage people. The challenge is here to stay for
right reasons since it promotes awareness of the ALS disease and encourages
donations for research on how to cure it. As celebrities can put a great impact and mindfulness on
people, the notion of creating such a challenge arose.
